How To Improve Vertical Leap - Increasing Vertical Jump

The competition between sportspeople gets more intense every year. Today a lot of sports involve having a good jumping ability. Obviously in basketball it is essential, but also in other sports such as baseball and soccer. There are many factors which play a part in how high you can jump, there is food and genetics, but it is possible for anyone to improve vertical leap.

As with any sporting ability, being able to jump high cannot be acquired without exercise and training, there is no magic spell that will allow you to leap higher. To begin with it helps to try and practice jumping as often you can. How high you are able to jump is usually determined by the strength of your calf muscles as these give you lift.

Daily exercises should be focused towards improving the size and strength of leg muscles. Perhaps the simplest way to do this is to have a daily session with a skipping rope. If you can skip for approximately thirty minutes each day your leg muscles will become toned and you will also have much better balance and coordination.

When jumping you also need to control your positioning and posture. Many athletes have found that hopping can help them in this regard. Hopping exercises allow both legs to develop in their strength and coordination.

Professional sports coaches will suggest using steps or stairs to improve vertical leap and leg strength. Even if you don't have access to a staircase you can practice on two or three steps.

No matter what your motive, increasing vertical leap is possible. For the best results try incorporating exercises that also improve your lung capacity, doing big leaps can often take your breath away.
